Toledo
The Ability Center of Greater Toledo, High School High Tech program was initiated in 2004, in northwest Ohio that will improve transition outcomes for youth with disabilities. This effort:
- Establishes a collaborative partnership including state and local education agencies, colleges and universities, workforce development organizations, community-based organizations and other public and private sector community resources to ensure that youth with disabilities are exposed to careers in high demand/high tech industries.
- Improves education outcomes of students with disabilities by helping them become independent, productive members of the technology driven workforce.
- Helps professionals in science, engineering, and technology-related fields to understand uses of assistive technology and the accommodation and facility-access needs of persons with disabilities.
Activities have included developing a HS/HT Club, e-mentoring activities which offer professional guidance to students, visitations to laboratories and businesses offering technology, career shadowing, and summer internships.
