What is High School High Tech?

High School/High Tech is a program that encourages youth with disabilities to explore career choices in non-traditional fields of study. Most youth with disabilities are capable of succeeding in mathematics, science, engineering, and technology with the technological advancement of today. High School/High Tech provides exposure, exploration and work related experience with in these enormously growing fields. Through this program these youth will be prepared to fill meaningful positions in Ohio’s high tech market.

HS/HT provides students exposure on a level that will insure opportunity for realistic career exploration while letting the participants have an opportunity to test their interests and abilities. We provide supports for success for our participants and cooperating federal agencies and high tech firms. The goals for our participants are to graduate from school and go on to post secondary education or obtain employment in the technology field.  Youth in the HS/HT program are provided opportunities to work in paid positions during the summer. More than * number of youth have participated in summer work programs. Our Cleveland site is one of the first HS/HT sites started by NASA Glenn Research Center. The program is now in its 7th year. Our Cincinnati site is unique because of its implementation of the SMARTLAB designed by Creative Solutions. Both the Toledo and Columbus sites are being operated by Independent Living Centers. The Toledo site began in January of this year and the Columbus program is scheduled for operations in early fall.

The High School/ High Tech program incorporates a mix of learning experiences that broaden the educational horizons of the students. This program empowers students to take a meaningful place in the high tech marketplace of the twenty-first century.
